How to Bring in a Repair and What to Expect

If you’ve never brought your jewelry in before, and are realizing it’s time to see a jeweler, you may have some questions. How do I bring a piece in? Is it okay to just walk in? How long will it take?

First off, just bring it in! No need to make an appointment. We have a full service repair shop, and William can handle pretty much anything. However, the only way William can tell you exactly what needs to be done, what can be done, and what it will cost is by looking at the piece in question.

It’s okay if you didn’t buy it here! We’re happy to help, regardless of where you buy your jewelry – that includes free cleaning and maintenance reminders. One caveat – If we don’t know where the jewelry came from, we cannot vouch for the quality and craftsmanship. Particularly with cheap jewelry, the repair may end up being more complicated than you would expect.

However, we’ve also done quick, 5-minute repairs on costume jewelry. You never know until you bring it in!

What to Expect

Each repair shop will have its own procedure, but this is how things work at Faber Metalli:

William will look over the jewelry, explain what will be done (plus anything additional he recommends), and give quotes for any options you have. Once everything is agreed upon, we’ll take your information, signature, and the piece of jewelry. Payment is not required until the jewelry is picked up. All jewelry taken in is stored in the safe.

Simple repairs will be done within a week. Repairs that are more complicated or require us to order in findings (jewelry “parts”) will usually be done within 2 weeks. We will let you know if it is expected to take longer. We also offer express services, so be sure to let us know if you need your jewelry sooner.

We will give you a call once the repair is finished, and you will be able to come in and pick up your beautiful jewelry.
